California Senior Games Launches New Logo
We are excited to introduce our new California Senior Games logo….at the left of this web site. After 30 years of use, we felt it was time for a change. The new Games logo retains key elements from our previous logo: the shape of California and the name embracing the state in a circular band. The state shape has been brought into a closer alignment with the actual shape. The circular band has been opened to create the letter C. Most significantly, we have added warmth, strength, energy, and movement with the addition of the sun. The rays of light extend across our state and convey our connection to the regional member organizations. Working closely with key CSGA board members, veteran designer Jerry Kuyper explored a wide range of design directions before the team settled on a direction. The final logo was strengthened with improvements from Kuyper’s design colleagues – Bill Chiaravalle and Ben Kuyper. California athletes can look forward to a range of special California logo gear – including hats, tee and polo shirts, to be available this summer.

Presentation to Senior Athletes, Provided by Professor Andrew Bartlett, CSUN
I wanted to recommend a presentation to senior athletes, provided by Professor Andrew Bartlett, CSUN.
Professor Bartlett says, “Participating in sports, fitness programs, and other athletics has been proven to increase health and wellness in older adults. The Senior Athletes Fitness Exam (SAFE) was created to help active adults gauge their physical fitness. SAFE tests cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness, flexibility, and balance, providing guidance on how to improve athletic performance as well as overall health. The Physical Therapy department at California State University Northridge has been actively involved with improving the fitness of seniors this past spring. Specifically, they held a 5-week program at CSUN for senior athletes to work on improving their athletic performance and reduce the risk for injury. Athletes were screened at the beginning and end of the program using the Senior Athlete Fitness Exam (SAFE). Additionally, PT students presented a zoom program on Wednesday, March 29 highlighting the SAFE program and exploring benefits and tips for senior fitness. Lastly, the PT students at CSUN came to Pasadena Senior Center on April 12, to screen seniors using the SAFE.
See this link for the presentation by students and faculty from California State University at Northridge Physical Therapy department and find about the SAFE program, as well as general tips for staying active.
